The operational costs of the Airbus A380, with its massive seating capacity, make it very difficult for airlines to operate economically. The aircraft can operate economically on select thick routes, especially when airports are heavily slot-constrained, such as London Heathrow. Their high fuel use is also partly compensated by the fact that they generally exist as sunk-cost, depreciated assets with little resale value, offering low capital costs.
