Local rail operator c2c Railway is proud to reaffirm its commitment to safeguarding by securing full re-accreditation as part of the Safer Railway Scheme (SRS), scoring 88% in the assessment audit.
The Safer Railway Scheme (SRS) is a joint initiative awarded by the British Transport Police (BTP) and Department for Transport (DfT) on an annual basis to train operating companies to protect vulnerable people on the UK rail network and is a contractual obligation for all train operators, with accreditation based on assessments of safeguarding practices.

I am delighted to see c2c’s full re-accreditation under this year’s Safer Railway Scheme, it underpins all the hard work that our safeguarding teams do to ensure that our customers get home safe every single day.”
Iain Palmer, Head of Revenue Protection and Security at c2c, said:
“Our scores over the last three years have been very consistent and showcase the hard work we do to provide such a high level of safeguarding across our route. It is through the tireless efforts of our frontline colleagues that we are able to deliver such consistency, which is the key to delivering a safe and trusted railway.”
Kam Wallis, c2c Safeguarding and Security Manager, said:

Our partnerships with WalkSafe, Samaritans, Mind, Stamp Out Spiking, White Ribbon and more represent our commitment to the safeguarding of our communities and customers – which has been commended under our re-accreditation.”
Under the re-accreditation, which is valid for the next two years, c2c was awarded 129.5 points from a possible 148 – scoring 100% for colleague training and in its response to vulnerability and victims of crime.

“I would like to take this opportunity to recognise the significant contribution of Head of Revenue Protection and Security, Iain Palmer, Safeguarding and Security Manager, Kamaldeep (Kam) Wallis and Revenue Protection Compliance Manager, Gary Pryke, whose input contributed significantly to demonstrating robust compliance, security and governance arrangements. Together, their efforts have helped create a safer railway environment for passengers, vulnerable people and staff alike.”
The result means that GBR Anglia (formed of c2c, Greater Anglia and Network Rail Anglia) is one of the leading safeguarding regions on the UK rail network, with Greater Anglia recently scoring 94% in its SRS assessment.
