Knorr-Bremse signs signalling tech framework agreement with AtkinsRéalis

Knorr-Bremse Rail Systems UK has announced the signing of a five-year framework agreement with AtkinsRéalis to continue supplying its advanced ElectroLogIXS signalling technology for deployment across the UK rail network.

ElectroLogIXS is a SIL4-certified, Network Rail-approved signalling, interlocking, object controller, and level crossing solution designed to improve the safety, reliability, and operational efficiency of modern railway infrastructure. Its modular architecture and advanced digital capabilities make it well suited to support the evolving needs of the UK rail industry.

In operation, ElectroLogIXS controls how trains move through sections of track by ensuring points are set correctly and level crossings operate safely, helping to prevent conflicting train movements and minimise delays.

Under the framework agreement, Knorr-Bremse will supply ElectroLogIXS units, while AtkinsRéalis will provide design, integration, deployment, and commissioning of turnkey signalling systems using the ElectroLogIXS platform.

The partnership brings together Knorr-Bremse’s expertise in signalling technology and AtkinsRéalis’ project delivery and Advanced Signalling Method (ASM) capabilities, building on a long-standing collaboration to support the ongoing modernisation of the UK’s rail network.

Richard Ward, head of sales at Knorr-Bremse Rail Systems UK, said: “This framework agreement marks an important step in our relationship with AtkinsRéalis and reflects the confidence both organisations have in the capabilities of ElectroLogIXS. By combining our signalling technology with AtkinsRéalis’ proven delivery expertise, we are well positioned to support future rail infrastructure projects and help drive the continued modernisation of the UK rail network.”

Lee Ludlum, sector director lead – rail systems at AtkinsRéalis said: “Upgrading the UK’s rail signalling system depends on the safe and efficient integration of new and existing technologies within a live operational environment. This framework with Knorr-Bremse builds on our successful partnership and supports our ability to deploy our Advanced Signalling Method at pace – minimising disruption for passengers and operators, while delivering predictable outcomes for clients.”

Knorr Bremse is currently supplying ElectroLogIXS for deployment on the Havant re-signalling project, which AtkinsRéalis is delivering as part of the Train Control Systems Framework (TCSF).
