Why The X-29’s Backward Wings Worked Perfectly But Were Never Used Again

The Grumman X-29 was the world’s first successful forward-swept wing experimental aircraft. Germany built two prototype Junkers Ju 287 jet bombers in WWII, but the design was infeasible with the technology and materials of the era. The X-29 proved a valuable testbed for new technologies, and while it even over-delivered in some aspects, it did not validate forward-swept wings as feasible for a future fighter jet design.
