Logistics operator Contship Italia reported growth across most metrics in 2025 compared with 2024. Its majority shareholder, EUROKAI, noted in its annual report a 3.5% increase in throughput, with total volumes reaching just over 1.71 million TEU.
The company also recorded improved financial performance. Consolidated net profit rose by 16.7%, according to CFO Tommaso Ferrario, while net revenue increased by 10.7% to €293m.
Operational performance
Operational growth was driven primarily by the terminals in Salerno and Ravenna, the EUROKAI report said. Salerno handled 416,056 TEU, up 16.2% year-on-year, while Ravenna processed 199,004 TEU, a 12.7% increase.
By contrast, Contship’s main terminal in La Spezia recorded a 2% decline to 1.1m TEU. Nevertheless, La Spezia led financial performance, with container handling revenue rising by 7.4%, supported by higher storage fees.
Meanwhile, Rail Hub Milano, owned by Contship Italia and operating three terminals in Melzo, Mazaglia and Padua, handled 4.8% more TEU in 2025, reaching a total of 219,000 units. The company’s rail freight subsidiary Oceanogate operated 3,814 trains, up 13.6% year-on-year, the report added.
Weaker outlook for 2026
Despite the positive results in 2025, the outlook for the current year is less favourable. “Earnings for the 2026 financial year are expected to be noticeably lower than in 2025,” the EUROKAI report stated. This is largely linked to the expansion of the La Spezia Container Terminal, where construction of a new facility named after Contship’s late founder Angelo Ravano is due to begin this year.
