Logistics operator Contship Italia recorded increases under most categories in 2025, compared to 2024. The annual report from EUROKAI, Contship’s majority shareholder, highlighted a 3.5% increase in TEUs handled, for a total of a little over 1,71 million units.
The company’s finances also improved, as Contship Italia said. For example, there was a 16.7% increase in consolidated net profit, according to the company’s CFO Tommaso Ferrario. Net revenue also grew by 10.7%, reaching 293 million euros, the company added.
Operatonal growth
Operationally, the growth in TEUs was led by the terminals in Salerno and Ravenna, according to the EUROKAI report. Salerno handled 416,056 TEUs, 16.2% more than in 2024, while Ravenna saw 199,004 TEUs passing through, a 12.7% increase.
However, Contship’s main terminal in La Spezia experienced a 2% decrease to 1,10 million TEUs. On the other hand, La Spezia led the financial growth thanks to a 7.4% increase in container handling revenue due to higher storage fees.
Moreover, the Rail Hub Milano, owned by Contship Italia and managing three terminals in Melzo, Mazaglia and Padua, handled 4.8% more TEUs in 2025 than in 2024, totalling 219,000 units. Contship’s rail freight subsidiary Oceanogate moved 3,814 trains, a year-on-year 13.6% increase, the report underlined.
Lower forecast for 2026
Despite the positive 2025, expectations for this current year are not as optimistic for Contship Italia. “Earnings for the 2026 financial year are expected to be noticeably lower than in 2025”, the EUROKAI report said. This is mostly linked to the expansion of the La Spezia Container Terminal, where construction of a new facility named after Contship’s late founder Angelo Ravano should start this year.
