The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s office ruled the death of actor James Ransone a suicide by hanging on December 19 at his home; he was 46.
A Baltimore native, Ransone earned fame as impulsive dockworker Ziggy Sobotka in The Wire’s second season and later starred in Generation Kill, Treme, and horror hits like Sinister, It: Chapter Two, and The Black Phone.
He had openly shared struggles with childhood abuse, addiction, and alcoholism, achieving sobriety in 2006, and is survived by his wife Jamie McPhee and two children. Fans shared clips of Ziggy and mourned his loss, with many urging support for those facing hardship.
