Disney released a one-minute teaser trailer for the live-action remake of its 2016 animated film Moana on Monday, starring 17-year-old New Zealand-Samoan actress Catherine Laga’aia as the title character and Dwayne Johnson reprising his role as Maui.
Directed by Thomas Kail, the film features a Polynesian-inspired adventure with original music by Opetaia Foa’i, Mark Mancina, and Lin-Manuel Miranda, and is set for theatrical release on July 10, 2026.
The trailer has drawn millions of views, with praise for its visuals alongside criticism over the remake’s necessity and Laga’aia’s straightened hair diverging from the character’s curls.
