Tensions have boiled over as March for Australia and counter-protesters took to the streets of Melbourne and other capital cities for the second time in as many months, with two Victoria Police officers hospitalised following the protests.
Hundreds of police officers, a group composed of both those in riot gear and mounted police, separated a March for Australia group estimated to be in the thousands, and a group of anti-racism protesters in Melbourne’s centre.
March for Australia protesters were clad in Australian flags, with some waving anti-immigration banners.
In contrast, counter-protesters carried a range of banners and signs with anti-fascist and anti-racist slogans, while others waved Palestinian, Somali and Aboriginal flags.

A 30-year-old woman was arrested in Melbourne, with police deploying crowd control measures, including OC (or pepper) spray, flash-bangs and rubber bullets during a tense stand-off with counter protesters.
Tom Elliott had his say on Sunday’s violent CBD protests, saying the city was losing millions each week as locals stay away. But of course and as usual there are no facts to back up his wild claims.
It would not suprise me at all to see a lift in takings for cafes and other food locations with additional people coming into the CBD.
That video is a disgrace example of police using excessive force. The moment they let off the first stun grenade. They were ruthless in defending racist nationalists today. Cops and Klan go hand in hand.
And a senior policeman comes on the TV News and tells everyone they have had enough.
What a disgrace. Channel 7 and 9 also covered up that all the violence was from left wing extremists which shows they support them attacking police. Australia we have a seriously corruption problem in the media.
