On October 2, 36-year-old sushi chef Wan Lai was ambushed from behind and stabbed in the chest by a 32-year-old woman on Little Bourke Street in Melbourne’s CBD while walking to work, suffering a punctured lung and requiring three days of hospitalisation.
The victim has since become a recluse and relocated for safety.
Police arrested the suspect, who was on bail for prior offenses and now faces charges of intentionally causing serious injury; the incident highlights Victoria’s 15.7% crime surge, including an 18% rise in assaults.
