Commuter chaos in Melbourne as power fault causes major train delays

Almost every train line was affected.

Melbourne evening commuters were left stranded due to a power fault which severely delayed almost every train line.

There were major delays on the Craigieburn, Sunbury, Alamein, Belgrave, Glen Waverley, Lilydale, Frankston, Werribee, Williamstown, Cranbourne and Pakenham lines due to a power fault.

The entire Upfield line was suspended, with replacement buses ordered between North Melbourne and Coburg.

Trains on the Upfield line are now resuming between North Melbourne and Coburg however buses may still be used to supplement train services.

Delays remain but have started to ease on all other impacted lines.

The department said an overhead power fault near North Melbourne was responsible for the issue.
