Why the Romanian Air Force is Switching From Russian MiG-21s to US F-16s and F-35s

So why is the Romanian Air Force ditching its Russian MiG-21s and making the switch to F-16s and F-35s? Well, for those of our readers who are military history-savvy, the answer to that question should be fairly obvious. As this writer pointed out in a recent Simple Flying article titled “What Fighter Jets Does India Have?,” the MiG-21 “Fishbed/Bison” is hopelessly obsolescent, as she made her maiden flight in 1955. In other words, it’s a 2nd Generation jet fighter.
