Why In The World Does The Boeing Dreamlifter Fly To An Air Force Base?

The McConnell Air Force Base, located just outside of Wichita, Kansas, regularly hosts Boeing’s specializedBoeing 747 Dreamlifters. While most of the world’s large aerospace factories are located at civil airports, Spirit AeroSystems is located at an air force base, and the company produces fuselage sections for the Boeing 737 and 787 Dreamliner. However, the Dreamliner is assembled in Charleston in South Carolina, requiring Boeing to transport the fuselages across the country.
