Fighter jets have many advantages over their piston-engined counterparts, but fuel efficiency is not one of them. One of the greatest limitations on any tactical fighter jet fleet is that they have limited range and loitering time in a conflict. This is alleviated somewhat by the use of in-air refueling and by aircraft carrying drop tanks. However, the limitation remains and is a major issue for every air force. So, how far can an F-15 fighter jet go per gallon?
