Why The Boeing 747-8 Has Such A Long Fuselage

The Boeing 747-8 is currently the world’s longest commercial jet in history with a fuselage measuring 250 ft 2 in (76.25 m), eclipsing the Airbus A340, which was 247 feet (75.30 meters) long. The 747-8 was the newest and final series in the Boeing 747 program, consisting of freighter (747-8F) and passenger (747-8i) variants. One of the boldest decisions Boeing took during the 747-8s development was to incorporate a stretch on the latest in the 747 family – the 747-400 – adding more than five meters to the plane’s fuselage to make it the longest passenger jet in the world.
