Although Virgin Atlantic bid farewell to the Boeing 747 nearly four years ago, the aircraft was its foundation to success. Having operated the jumbojet for 36 years, the airline was able to fly further, establishing a formidable route network and competing with the likes of British Airways and other transatlantic carriers.
