I attended a day tour operated by heritage Railway operator to Seymour day tour supporting Regional Vic areas.
The tour train was tabled to pull in 3B in Southern Cross Station as “Special” pulls in 07:43 with P20 and A66 locomotive leading toward Seymour.
- I settled in ACZ255 a old former West Coast Railway carriage.
- The train a BS carriages VR rolling stock compartment cars
- BK Lounge Car ex SA carriage
- No 1 Club VR&SAR joint rolling stock
- Sleeper Kuldalai VR & SAR joint rolling stock
- PCO2 VR&SAR joint Rolling stock
After on board we greeted via Matt who is one of the managers of the tour operator
People settled down for nice relaxing ride via Nth Melb Station turning toward the NE and went thought the Nth Eastern Suburb area in Metro ie:
- Broadmeadows out toward the country
- Seen next my window where I was sitting was Standard Gauge line where the Standard interstates freight operated with XPT as well the odd V/line service VoLcity DMU to Albury.
- This line heads to Seymour and branches off toward Shepparton on the Broad Gauge
After the formalities PA announcements etc. passengers were served on board drinks Champagne and orange juice which I guess was onboard greeting drinks.
Me I settled for Champagne as to me the train trip itself is a special occasion in my case!

Later shuffled through the train the BS cars to No.1 Club whist BK was chartered out for private function on board
Club Car was very well patronised lot of people having drinks and munchie’s and chatting amongst themselves.
I noticed was seemly talented young man playing the piano in the carriage and giving us some on board entertainment playing some music some songs known by some of the passengers who sang along too!
I shuffled back after getting few munchies to ACZ and sat by my window having my breakfast on board watching out the window. After while I decided to get some drinks and settle in no 1 Club Car and after a brief stop at Tallarook to pick up more people next thing we are advised we arriving at Seymour
Our Train pulled in to Seymour Station Platform 3
We all alighted and line up to checked in the Wine Festival state of Goulburn, souvenir bag, gold wrist band and a little lovely glass with nice little label saying ” Tastes Of Goulburn” I shuffled in to see how it was like since it was my first time attending it.
As the last time I came the Seymour Taste Of Goulburn the Heritage Railway Centre’s open day fell on that same day as our tour last time 707 Operations Inc. operated a tour in Seymour which I attend that year too!
I looked around and saw a street parade people wearing a fork and Knife costume and some sort band starting the festivities!
- I noticed a little food and wine stalls all down the main street of Seymour as the road was closed off for the festival
- On stage a few announcements were made and after I saw a man wearing some sort Kangaroo skin I am guess it was Welcome To The Country ritual took place.
- The musical entertainment started shortly after.
- Weather was a bit cold and but dry most the day
After Train shunts in at 15:15
I boarded ACZ255 and settle in for the return leg back to Melbourne after getting few drinks and later served passengers were afternoon Champagne and Juice from the Tour manager Matt.
I myself enjoyed champagne and proceeded to rest in ACZ after a day in the Festival and street as the colder weather was starting to set in again
Noticed we were heading toward metro line and sometime we are behind another train and had to stop briefly beside that it was a very nice tour for a day.
Train pulls in 17:30 before dark and very nice day out and noted N12 beside our train on 3A ready for evening Swan Hill Service!
As for other people who are like longer duration trips there are other weekender tours during the year operated via this railway heritage operator !

To Petra,
Thank you for your kind comments, hope to see on some of those tours soon….
I have trouble with mobility so I will
Not attend too nervous. I wish you all the best and I hope to read more of your posts.
The weekender tour can cater for walkers, but some fitness is required….
The day tour not sure..try
Contact the operator….
We are lucky in Victoria to have steam trains running and they are very popular with the punters.
Good trip by all accounts.
