In response to the rise in popularity of medium-capacity long-haul aircraft, Airbus decided it needed to introduce a new model to the market to compete with the recently launched Boeing 787, which had quickly begun to dominate this market segment. This resulted in the Airbus A330neo, with the “-neo” standing for “New Engine Option,” a widebody aircraft developed by Airbus from its earlier (and rather popular) Airbus A330 model. This model had already become extremely popular with operators from across the globe, who relied on its impressive combination of range and capacity.
