The Boeing 767 was one of the most successful aircraft ever introduced by Boeing Commercial Airplanes, and it helped pioneer the idea of twin-engine widebody flight. The aircraft was launched on July 14th, 1978, and the prototype aircraft took to the skies for the first time on September 26th, 1981. It eventually entered service with United Airlines not long after, on September 8th, 1982. The original Boeing 767-200 variant would be followed shortly after by the highly-capable extended-range Boeing 767-200ER in 1984, and the stretched 767-300 would hit the market in 1986. Boeing was not done with the aircraft family, however, as it introduced the wildly popular Boeing 767-300ER in 1988, the successful Boeing 767-300F freighter variant in 1995, and ultimately the high-capacity Boeing 767-400ER, which entered service in 2000.
