For those of us who routinely fly, it may be easy to forget an extremely important part of airport operations. Ramp operations, which are often overlooked or completely ignored by the average passenger, are some of the most essential elements of any flight’s pre-departure and post-arrival routine. Ramp operations is an extremely vague term, one which can involve everything from loading and unloading the aircraft, to towing them around the airport during taxi or even catering the plane, according to the Civil Aviation Authority.

On the first day of the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) hearings related to the Alaska Airlines Boeing 737 MAX 9 door plug blowout, Boeings representatives said that the company would redesign the door plug to prevent another occurrence from ever taking place.Elizabeth Lund, the senior vice president of Quality of Boeing Commercial Airplanes, said during the hearing that her company was designing changes to the mid-exit door plug, changes which the plane maker aimed to introduce soon.
