Vietnam has a growing domestic aviation sector that is dominated by two Vietnamese airlines: the flag carrier Vietnam Airlines and the low-cost carrier VietJet. VietJet operates many domestic routes as well as many short-haul flights around Southeast Asia. It also uses its limited fleet of seven Airbus A330s to operate long-haul flights to Australia and India. The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam forecasted that the aviation market would handle 78.3 million passengers in 2024 (representing a year-on-year growth of 7.7%). So what market share does Vietnam’s VietJet enjoy? According to data from Cirium (an aviation analytics company), VietJet is set to be more or less tied with its Vietnam Airlines rival in 2024.
