How MAFFS Turns Military Transports Into Aerial Firefighters

MAFFS, or Modular Aerial Fire Fighting Systems, transforms a military transport into an aerial firefighter. In an interview with Simple Flying, David Sarnoff, the Executive Director for the MAFFS program, kindly made time to explain how the MAFFS magic happens. As some may be aware, MAFFS-equipped C-130 Hercules are becoming the rough equivalent of the calvary fighting wildfires in the care of multiple United States Air Force Air National Guard units such as the recent wildfires that laid siege to Los Angeles, California.
