Pilatus Aircraft has become one of the largest general aviation aircraft manufacturers in the world over the last twenty years. The company was first founded in Stans, Switzerland, in the late 1930s. It was originally developed to manufacture Vickers Spitfire aircraft for the Swiss military. However, this venture was unsuccessful, and the company instead conducted maintenance and repairs for the Swiss military.
