The airport was forced to shut its north-south runway on Sunday night following the incident, as the tyre damage to the Dreamliner, A6-BLN, meant it could not be immediately cleared from the runway and was reportedly stuck there for around 14 hours.
Tony Brun, who has served as Avalon’s CEO since the exit of Justin Giddings in October 2022, announced that he was stepping down from his role at Melbourne’s secondary airport to take up “a new Chief Executive opportunity in Saudi Arabia”.
