What’s The Story Behind Aspen/Pitkin County Airport?

From the surface, Aspen/Pitkin County Airport (ASE) does not have many observable differences from most of the airports that serve glitzy ski towns across the American West, ranging from Jackson Hole and Big Sky in the north to places like Lake Tahoe and Salt Lake City. During the winter months, especially during the critical week between Christmas and New Year’s, Aspen Airport becomes one of the busiest in the Rockies and is home to more private jets than almost any other ski-oriented airport.
