The Cuban Missile Crisis was one of the most scary times of the Cold War and is famously when the world came close to nuclear war. Fortunately, nuclear conflict never happened, and the crisis was resolved diplomatically with only one Lockheed U-2 spy plane being shot down. Here are five of the more notable aircraft deployed during the crisis. Some 57 years later, some aircraft that took part in the missile crisis are still in service today (like the venerable Lockheed U-2 ‘Dragon Lady’).
