In the wake of the 2022 Russian full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Western countries (along with other countries like South Korea and Japan) imposed crippling sanctions on Russia’s aviation industry. Russia is now cut off from the international aviation industry (except for where it is able to evade sanctions). Russia is unable to purchase new Boeing and Airbus aircraft and can’t even purchase Brazil’s Embraer or Chinese Comac C919s.
