The proposed joint venture between US carrier Allegiant Air and Mexico's Viva Aerobus was first filed in December 2021, and it has remained mainly dormant since the US Department of Transportation (DOT) halted its review in August 2023. On February 23, 2024, the two airlines submitted a formal motion to DOT to reinstitute its review of the request for approval and antitrust immunity for their alliance.
