The Iranian Air Force: A Force To Be Reckoned With Or An Eclectic Mix Of Dated Jets?

In 2010, the CIA declassified a document produced in 1982 stating that the Iranian Air Force was a diminishing threat. At the time, the Iranian Air Force was armed with some of the US’s most fighter jets – the F-14 Tomcats (as well as F-4 Phantom IIs and Northrop F-5s). Over 40 years later, how does the Iranian Air Force stack up? Iran is known to at least have some F-14 Tomcats flying, but how many is almost anyone’s guess.
