The Full-Scale Russian Invasion of Ukraine has turbocharged the development of drone warfare. The use of drones in Ukraine is evolving at such a pace that the drone war of one year is almost entirely different from the previous year. At the start of the war, part of Kyiv’s defenses was an ad hoc group of Ukrainian drone enthusiasts sharing intel via WhatsApp and Signal; this was also when the Turkish-built TB2 Bayraktar drones had their fleeting moment in the sun. Russia and Ukraine are building vast fleets of millions of drones, and drones are making many world-first achievements.
