Russia’s Commercial & Military Aviation Industries Duel For Limited Resources

Russian civil aviation is competing with military aviation for resources with the goal of producing 1,000 aircraft not to be questioned.

Aeroflot is now ordering 339 MC-21 jets and canceling its orders for Sukhoi Superjet 100s and Tu-214s.

The home-grown aircraft continues to be plagued by international sanctions against Russia.

Even though the MC-21 that eventually goes into production will be a different aircraft from 2021, plenty of Russian airlines are still ordering it.

Russia now plans to produce 994 passenger aircraft by 2030 – a trimmed but still incredibly optimistic estimate.

The MC-21 will have significantly reduced performance when eventually enters production.

Domestic Russian commercial jets are being delayed as they are re-designed with Russian-built parts.

The MC-21 has suffered another delay, with Rostec’s CEO not specifying which tests the aircraft still has to pass before its certification.
