Network Rail is encouraging day trippers and holidaymakers to choose the train for their journeys over the Bank Holiday weekend at the end of this month.
Train operator South Western Railway (SWR) and Network Rail Wessex (NR Wessex) have begun cracking down on ‘short-faring’, which involves passengers paying for a ticket only for part of their journey rather than for the full distance they travel.
Network Rail is urging passengers travelling between Cheltenham Spa and Lydney to check their journeys before travelling this Sunday (9 August), as Network Rail will be carrying out essential track maintenance work.
Quick thinking by Avanti West Coast and Network Rail staff recently safely rescued a tortoise, which had strayed onto railway lines at Runcorn in Cheshire.
