Walking the Morwell Briquette Branch Line

While waiting for the up Maryvale freight to come through Morwell Darcy Cameron went for a quick walk on the old Briquette Branch Line which hasn’t seen use for some years now.

The Briquette lines were used for decades to carry coal briquettes from the nearby mines to Melbourne and across Victoria.

Traffic would especially to sent to Warrnambool and Kyabram and also to the Briquette siding in Footscray and Yarraville.

Often rakes of GY wagons would run behind the electric L Class Locomotives on their journey from Morwell to Melbourne and Tottenham Yards where the rakes would be broken up and worked to other destinations.

With the poor reputation of V/line and Victrack I’m surprised it wasn’t ripped up 20+ years ago.
