The Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird is a high-altitude, supersonic reconnaissance aircraft that was designed to fly higher and outrun anything the Soviet Air Force could deploy. The futuristic plane is among the most recognizable today, and a total of 32 jets were built throughout 33 years of service with both the United States Air Force and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).
