Why Do Window Blinds Need To Be Open During Takeoff & Landing?

Have you ever been asked by a flight attendant to open the window blinds for landing? Many airlines globally mandate that all window blinds remain open during taxi, takeoff, and landing. While this practice is uncommon in the United States, only a handful of US airlines “encourage” passengers (particularly those seated in emergency exit rows) to do so.
