The assault happened around 7:45 p.m. Sunday on Scorpio Street in Torquay, Victoria, when a 14-year-old began vandalising One Nation signage at the volunteer’s property.
The teen’s 37-year-old father joined in, allegedly using a baseball bat; both New Zealand nationals on special visas were arrested while damaging the victim’s vehicle, as his wife and children called police.
The victim suffered serious head injuries, facial fractures, and internal bleeding but is stable at Geelong Hospital; the father faces charges and a court date in Geelong.

Online comments point to rising political tensions before Victoria’s election, with calls for leaders to condemn such violence unequivocally.
