ORR’s authorisation covers the station’s new 157m long platform (Platform 3), with canopy and seating, extended the existing footbridge and new lift. There will also be a new gate line adjacent to the existing station building.

The regulator’s authorisation is a key milestone in getting new, upgraded or renewed infrastructure ready to open. It also confirms that standards on areas like health and safety, accessibility, environmental protection, reliability and availability have been met.

ORR has worked closely with Network Rail and the wider project team through the authorisation process, ensuring that important checks and surveys were carried out.

Steve Fletcher, deputy director, engineering and asset Management, said:

“This is an important step in getting the busy Salford Crescent station ready to open its new platform to help improve how passengers move through the station.

“We’re pleased to have played our part in getting the improvements ready to be put into use. Our team worked closely with Network Rail to support them through the authorisation process, just as we do for new trains and infrastructure across the country.”
