During the golden age of air travel, passengers would stroll along the apron and climb up a moveable flight of stairs to board an aircraft. As airports became more crowded and had more moving equipment, it became difficult for passengers to travel around the apron safely. In addition, they had no protection from the elements. However, things have changed significantly since the 1950s, and we now utilize jet bridges to safely and safely get passengers in and out of aircraft and onto the airport premises.
