Rail freight services between Italy, Germany and Sweden have been launched or increased over the past couple days. Kombiverkehr is launching new links along the Duisburg–Malmö and Regensburg–Verona routes, while Nurminen Logistics doubled the frequency of its Italy–Sweden connection.
For Nurminen Logistics, the link between Parma, in northern Italy, and Örebro, in southern Sweden, will go from one to two weekly departures. The service was initially launched last February between the Castelguelfo terminal, part of the Parma Interporto complex, and the Frövi terminal, managed by the Finnish company itself.
The frequency increase is not the only novelty of the service, run in cooperation with Italian logistics firm Lanzi Trasporti. “The company will also deploy a more versatile wagon fleet, increasing the service’s flexibility by accommodating a wider range of container types and enabling the transport of dangerous goods”, Nurminen said.
Kombiverkehr’s new services
The other two services are new ones and have been launched by German intermodal operator Kombiverkehr. The Duisburg–Malmö one was inaugurated on 2 September with two weekly departures, with a plan to double frequency as of January 2027. “A distinctive feature of the new service is the direct rail link without the need for ferry transport”, the company explained.
Kombiverkehr’s other new service connects the Quadrante Europa terminal in Verona with the Container Terminal Regensburg. The first journey took place on 8 September, with two weekly trips scheduled. “This will connect the CTR Container Terminal Regensburg to Kombiverkehr KG’s European intermodal network for the first time”, the operator added.
The German intermodal player is also strengthening its east-west axis with the upcoming launch of a service between Neuss, in western Germany, to Barcelona Morrot. Trains will start running on 6 October.
This link adds to the company’s already existing links from Ludwigshafen and Duisburg to the Catalan capital. Via the Neuss Trimodal terminal, cargo units can be transferred directly onto the train to Poznan in Poland. Within Spain, Constanti and Madrid can be reached by rail from Barcelona.
