Jet engines are powerful machines that are designed to generate sufficient power to lift hundreds of thousands of pounds of an aircraft off the ground and keep it airborne. Depending on the type of engine, the power generated by engines can be measured in horsepower (generally for piston or reciprocating engines) or in pounds-force of thrust for jet engines.
