The head of the global cruise industry has slammed Australia’s high costs and regulation for driving away major cruise lines and cutting the sector’s economic contribution by more than $1bn
Australians are increasingly having to fly overseas to take a cruise following the withdrawal of Cunard, Virgin Voyages and P&O Cruises, with Disney also not planning to return.
Cruise Lines International Association global CEO Bud Darr said the problem was not demand, but that Australia made itself uncompetitive.
