A 60 year old retail worker is expected to die after a pack of kids aged 12 to 15 allegedly set upon him on Hampshire Rd in Sunshine on Saturday. He intervened when the group turned on another man.
They circled him, punched him repeatedly in the head, and kept striking him “for minutes” after he hit the ground hard.
Police call it a callous, unprovoked, abhorrently violent attack done for notoriety.
Five children charged.
The 12 year old’s mother stood in court in tears claiming her son is a “top student,” barely knew the others, is “very remorseful,” and she’s worried about his “mental health” and “physical safety” if he goes into youth detention.
How does she think the man’s family is coping right now?
Watching their husband, father or brother lie in hospital with unsurvivable injuries because her son and his mates allegedly bashed him half to death?
Where was the concern for that man’s mental health when the group was stamping on him?
Magistrate refused the 12 year old bail.
Right call.
The community is rightly outraged.
