Terminal Italia, part of state-owned FS Logistix, will manage the Orte Intermodal Terminal, which will be ready by January 2027. The facility, currently handling road freight traffic only, is about to get three tracks of 750 metres to accommodate freight trains.
The site in Orte is strategically located as it sits 80 kilometres north of Rome and 80 east of the port of Civitavecchia, the main one in the region. Moreover, it is connected to the TEN-T Scandinavian-Mediterranean corridor, which runs from north to south, and to the line connecting the Italian capital to the port of Ancona, from east to west.
Steel, chemical and ceramic
Orte will be the 23rd terminal in FS Logistix’s portfolio in Europe, the company added. “Our goal is to work immediately with the market to develop new connections and services capable of meeting the needs of the region’s production and distribution chains”, said the company’s CEO Sabrina De Filippis.
The terminal will move a wide variety of cargo and serve different industries active in the region. “From distribution logistics and large-scale retail trade in the Rome area, including the capital’s hinterland, to the Terni steel hub, the Narni chemical hub, the Civita Castellana ceramics district, and the Tuscia agri-food sector”, FS Logistix explained.
