The MiG-25, designed by the Mikoyan and Gurevich Design Bureau, was a supersonic interceptor jet considered one of the fastest military aircraft to enter service. The aircraft’s prototype flew for the first time in 1964, entering service six years later. At first, the Western powers were frightened by the MiG-25’s capabilities, yet a defector eliminated those fears once the United States (US) was able to dismantle the aircraft in Japan.
