While British Airways is technically a full-service carrier, strong competition from budget airlines on short-haul routes has prompted it to incorporate certain aspects of the low-cost model into its operations. These have included the removal of complimentary meals for economy passengers, and the introduction of a hand luggage-only tariff whereby travelers must pay for seat selection.
