Man charged after body found in Wollongong train station

A man has been charged with murder after the body of a man in his 60s was found in a train station carpark stairwell.

A police spokesperson said a 37-year-old man was due to appear in the Wollongong Local Court on Monday, charged with murder.

About 7.20am on Sunday, police were called to the Wollongong train station on Station St.

Someone had found a body in a stairwell.

The deceased person was a 68-year-old man.

The train station will remain closed on Monday, a police spokesperson said.

The Daily Telegraph reported the body was found on a stairwell by railway staff on the first level of the west side of the station’s carpark, an area where people were known to sleep rough.

The deceased man has yet to be named.
