Safaricom reveals slight gain in profits

Indonesian telcos XL Axiata and Smartfren Telecom announced on Wednesday they have finally agreed to merge their operations in a deal valued at IDR104 trillion (US$6.5 billion) after years of rumours and negotiations.

Ukrainian operator Kyivstar has announced plans to reallocate 3G spectrum to enhance its 4G network across settlements in the Dnipropetrovsk and Lviv regions, as part of wider efforts to modernise its infrastructure and lay the groundwork for 5G.

MTN revealed its strategy to “restore profitability” in its Nigerian unit which includes raising tariff prices, after being hit by a sharp devaluation in the local currency.
