The UAE is currently under strain after Iran launched retaliatory missile and drone attacks following US and Israeli strikes on Iran. Iranian attacks hit airports, ports and residential areas across the country and the wider Gulf.
”At around 4:30 AM PST, one of our Availability Zones (mec1-az2) was impacted by objects that struck the data centre, creating sparks and fire,” AWS said in a statement.
The fire department shut off power to the facility and generators as they worked to put out the fire, the company revealed.
However, other UAE zones are operating as usual, with AWS neither confirming nor denying that the UAE incident was related to the Iranian strikes.
Over the weekend, the Ministry of Defence announced that the UAE air force and air defence forces have so far dealt with 165 ballistic missiles, two cruise missiles and 541 Iranian drones since the start of the Iranian attack.
A total of 541 Iranian drones were detected, of which 506 were intercepted and destroyed, while 35 fell within the country, causing material damage.
