The Port of Liverpool has welcomed its largest ever shipment from ADM, highlighting the port’s growing capability in handling high-volume bulk cargoes and its role in supporting UK food and feed supply chains. The vessel, the Kamsarmax-sized Navios Citrine, docked from New Orleans, USA, carrying more than 67,000 metric tonnes of mixed agribulk products, marking a milestone for both ADM and Peel Ports. The carrier, Navios, operates a fleet of over 170 vessels.
The cargo, discharged using a Liebherr mobile harbour crane with a grab, comprised maize, high-protein soya, soya hull pellets and corn gluten. Together, these commodities are central to the UK’s agricultural and animal feed sectors. The shipment’s scale and complexity underlined Liverpool’s flexibility in handling multiple product types while maintaining quality, segregation and efficient turnaround times.
Complex bulk cargo handled efficiently
Handling multiple commodity types in a single consignment is a complex process. The port was eager to demonstarte it’s ability to manage high-volume, varied bulk cargoes with precision. Managing these cargoes requires careful planning and coordination to ensure the integrity of each product throughout discharge and onward transport. The bulk carrier Navios Citrine, measuring 229m in length, represented the largest ADM consignment ever handled at Liverpool, reflecting growing confidence in the port’s infrastructure and operational capability.

Jonathan Lane, Managing Director of ADM Agriculture Ltd and ADM UK Country Manager, said: “This shipment represents an important milestone for ADM and underscores the strength of our global supply chains. Our partnership with Peel Ports and the Port of Liverpool is integral to our operations and central to our commitment as a dependable supplier of high-quality feedstuffs to the UK Animal Feed Industry.”
Deep-water access and onward connectivity
Liverpool’s deep-water access, modern discharge facilities and strong onward connectivity continue to make the port a preferred gateway for high-volume commodities, according to the operators. The infrastructure allows customers to move essential goods efficiently from ship to market, supporting the resilience of the UK supply chain.

ADM’s record shipment highlights the strategic importance of such facilities in accommodating large, complex cargoes that are vital to food and feed production.
“Welcoming ADM’s largest ever shipment to the Port of Liverpool underlines the capability of the port and our teams to handle increasingly large and complex bulk cargoes,” said Tom Harrison, Group Strategic Accounts Director at Peel Ports Group. “Our deep-water access, modern infrastructure and strong onward connectivity enable customers like ADM to move essential goods through the UK supply chain with confidence.”
