Jacinta Allan approves high salaries for Treaty Management Team

So we are paying salaries for people we did not want and voted NO to – why?

Key details regarding the controversy include:

  • Salary Level: Reports indicated that members of the Treaty Authority panel could earn up to $380,000 a year for full-time work, with some reporting sessional rates that could lead to high earnings.
  • Government Defense: Premier Jacinta Allan defended these remuneration levels, stating it was “entirely appropriate” for people with the necessary skills and experience to be paid well for “big and important work”. She argued that the roles require a high level of expertise to navigate the Treaty process.
  • Criticism: The pay packets were described by critics as “alarming” and “way out of step with community expectations,” particularly given the cost-of-living struggles for many Victorians.
  • Context: The Treaty Authority is a key part of the Victorian government’s commitment to a treaty, with over $380 million spent on treaty negotiations in the state over the past decade.

While some reports highlighted the high pay for these roles, Premier Allan justified them as necessary for the “important task” of Treaty negotiation.

Perhaps this Jacinta Allan can pay them out of her own pocket seeing as she created their positions, going against our wishes. She is possibly worse than the previous goose.

  1. Add the annual leave, interstate training, travel, sick leave, insurance, car, office space and air conditioning, it will be >$300,000! And when they want to leave, they will sue the government for work place bullying or a fall or being culturally unsafe or racism and will be set for life! Then it starts all over again. Meanwhile the poor remote indigenous sees no change.
