Asia is one of Air Canada’s most important long-haul markets, with its West Coast hub atVancouver International Airport (YVR) serving as a particularly important gateway for westbound transpacific journeys. With that being said, the Canadian flag carrier and Star Alliance founding member does also fly to Asian destinations from elsewhere in the country, namely its hubs at Montréal Trudeau International (YUL) and Toronto Pearson (YYZ).

Nearly nine years have passed since the Airbus A220 (previously called CSeries) entered commercial service. The A220-100 (CS100) first flew passengers with launch customer SWISS in July 2016. The higher-capacity and more popular A220-300 (CS300), with much better economics, first flew with airBaltic in December 2016.Unlike regional jets, the A220—even the smallest variant—is considered mainline equipment.
